Cost

All Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents pay the regular University of Alberta Tuition for a 6-credit Spring/Summer course currently estimated at $1,470.90 CAD.  International students pay the International Student Tuition currently estimated at $4,740.42 CAD.

In addition all students pay the MSISF (Mandatory Student Instructional Support Fee) of $2,500 CAD.

The MSISF will cover:

Transportation to Belgrade not included. Hostel or host families may provide breakfast or other meals, but students should expect to make their own arrangements for meals. Learning the Serbian food culture will be an important opportunity for fieldwork training.

Funding

The Program won the CAGFIL award (from the Government of Alberta) for 2019. All eligible students will receive $750 CAD each towards their expenses.

In order to receive the CAGFIL award, an individual student participating in the program must meet the following criteria:

1. They are a Canadian citizen or PR
2. Have completed at least two semesters of, as well as be currently registered in and attending a diploma, baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral program at an eligible Alberta post-secondary institution
3. Are a resident of Alberta, defined for the purpose of this grant program as any one of the following:
o Born in Alberta;
o Graduated from a high school in Alberta;
o Graduated from an Eligible Program at an Alberta post-secondary institution; or
o Lived in Alberta for 12 consecutive months.

The program also won the Education Abroad Group Awards (EAGA). The award amount is the same ($750) as CAGFIL and will be awarded to those students who are not eligible for CAGFIL award (those without Canadian citizenship or permanent residence). In order to receive the EAGA award, an individual student participating in the program must meet the following criteria:
  • be registered in a University of Alberta degree program, either at the undergraduate or graduate level;
  • undergraduate students have completed a minimum of *12 credits of UAlberta coursework by the application deadline (*15 credits if registered in the Faculty of Science);
  • have a minimum GPA of 2.7 over the last two academic terms;
  • graduate students must have completed at least one term of graduate study by the application deadline; and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.7 on the courses taken.
